Tips for travellers

Cash is king. But make it crisp.

Credit cards (VISA, MasterCard) are accepted in many places, but cash is still required for certain transactions. Remember to request crisp, new bills for US cash, as some customs agents are very particular about the age of bills you give them.

Camera. camera. camera!

Documenting your trip through journaling or photography is common and highly recommended. A high-quality camera with a telephoto lens will help ensure you capture strong images of your wildlife encounters.

Start in your closet.

The good news is you don’t need a whole new wardrobe! Plan to bring comfortable, breathable athletic wear in neutral colours on safari so that you blend into the landscape. A solid pair of trail runners/hiking boots is a must, and bring light layers for cool evenings.

Pack for a purpose.

With a little preparation ahead of time, you can bring practical gifts and a little joy to local school children. A small bag filled with school supplies, educational and art materials etc. will be well received and very much appreciated at local schools. Ask us more about ways to contribute!

Get your vaccinations up to date.

Plan to visit the doctor or your local travel clinic a few months before your trip to consult about current vaccinations suggested for the areas you will be traveling to. Malaria prevention pills, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Typhoid and Yellow Fever inoculations are recommended. Info can also be found at www.cdc.gov/travel

Do some research.

We recommend prepping ahead of your trip by researching the stories, history, art and music of Africa so that your experience is that much richer. We can provide lists of popular films and books to help get you started. Africa has been the inspiration for many locals and visiting artists.
